DHAKA, March 18, 2025 (BSS) – Following their bronze medal victory at the recent Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship in Iran, the Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team has received a brief respite before ramping up preparations for the upcoming Women’s World Cup Kabaddi.
The team has been training at the Riya Gop Women’s Sports Complex in Dhanmondi, with coaching support from Shahnaz Parvin Maleka and Arduzzaman Munshi.
The second edition of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup is scheduled to take place in Bihar, India, from June 1 to 13 this year. The first Women’s Kabaddi World Cup was held in Bihar in 2012, where India emerged as champions and Bangladesh finished in fifth place.
With their recent success at the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship, Bangladesh aims to carry forward their momentum into the World Cup.
Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation General Secretary SM Newaz Sohag stated, “The success of the team in the Asian Women’s Championship has brought pride to the country. The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation hopes to see similar achievements at the World Cup. After finishing fifth in 2012, our goal this time is to improve our position and perform even better.”
Sohag also revealed several plans for the team’s preparation. “We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the team’s readiness for the World Cup. The women’s team will travel to Nepal in late April or early May to play a five-match Test series against the host nation. Additionally, there may be a tri-nation series in Thailand involving Bangladesh, Nepal, and possibly Sri Lanka or Thailand itself.”
Moreover, there are plans to send the team to India 15 to 30 days prior to the World Cup for final preparations. Discussions are underway to organise warm-up matches against local teams, providing the players with valuable practice ahead of the tournament. The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation remains committed to doing everything possible to ensure the success of the women’s kabaddi team.
