Arsenal Title Bid Suffers Setback

Arsenal’s challenge for the Premier League title suffered a setback after a 2–1 defeat at home to Bournemouth, while Liverpool responded to recent difficulties with a 2–0 victory over Fulham at Anfield on Saturday.

At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal took on Bournemouth but fell behind in the 17th minute when Junior Kroupi put the visitors ahead. The goal was a significant personal achievement for Kroupi, who became only the fourth teenager to reach ten or more goals in a single Premier League debut season.

Arsenal equalised in the 35th minute through a penalty converted by Viktor Gyökeres, restoring parity before half-time. However, Bournemouth regained the lead in the 71st minute when Alex Scott scored what proved to be the decisive goal. Despite sustained efforts, Arsenal were unable to recover for the remainder of the match.

The result ended Arsenal’s run of four consecutive league victories. It also contributed to a difficult recent sequence for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have now lost three of their last four matches across all competitions. That run includes exits from both the FA Cup and the League Cup, adding to a challenging period in the closing stages of the season.

In contrast, Liverpool secured a 2–0 win over Fulham at Anfield, ending a three-match winless run in the league. The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when Rio Ngumoha scored with a composed angled finish from the left side of the penalty area. Four minutes later, Mohamed Salah extended the lead with a goal from the right flank.

Salah’s strike marked his sixth Premier League goal of the campaign and his 11th in all competitions this season, underlining his continued contribution to Liverpool’s attacking output.

Despite their defeat, Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League table after 32 matches, with 70 points. Manchester City sit second with 61 points from 30 matches, maintaining pressure in the title race as the season approaches its final phase.

Liverpool’s victory strengthens their position in the race for Champions League qualification. They occupy fifth place with 52 points from 32 matches, while Chelsea are sixth with 48 points from 31 matches, keeping the battle for European places closely contested.
