Highest Seasonal Goals in Top Leagues

Bayern Munich have established a new benchmark for goals scored in a single Bundesliga season, surpassing their own previous record with five matches still remaining in the current campaign. The German club’s latest achievement has brought renewed attention to scoring records across Europe’s five major domestic leagues.

The Bavarian side set the new Bundesliga record following a 5–0 victory over St. Pauli, taking their tally to 105 goals in 29 matches. This figure exceeds their previous record of 101 goals, set during the 1971–72 season by a team featuring Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller. Bayern’s dominance in this category is extensive, as they hold each of the top seven records for most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season.

With five fixtures left to play, Bayern Munich have the opportunity to challenge the overall record for goals in a single season across Europe’s top five leagues. However, reaching that milestone would require an additional 21 goals from their remaining matches. In the current campaign, Harry Kane leads Bayern’s scoring chart with 31 goals, while Luis Díaz (15) and Michael Olise (12) have also contributed double-digit tallies.

In the English Premier League, the record for most goals in a single season is held by Manchester City. During the 2017–18 season, they scored 106 goals, surpassing Chelsea’s previous record of 103. Sergio Agüero was the club’s leading scorer that season with 21 goals.

Spain’s La Liga record belongs to Real Madrid, who scored 121 goals in the 2011–12 season. Although Cristiano Ronaldo scored 46 goals for Madrid that season, he was not the league’s top scorer, as Barcelona’s Lionel Messi registered 50 goals.

Italy’s Serie A record remains one of the oldest among Europe’s top leagues. Torino scored 125 goals in 40 matches during the 1947–48 season, a record that still stands. In terms of a 38-match season, AC Milan hold the record with 118 goals in the 1949–50 campaign. Most entries in the top ten list date back to the 1940s and 1950s, with a notable modern exception being Atalanta’s 98 goals in the 2019–20 season, placing them ninth on the list.

In France’s Ligue 1, Monaco set a record of 107 goals in the 2016–17 season. This was surpassed the following season when Paris Saint-Germain scored 108 goals. Notably, Kylian Mbappé was part of both teams during those respective campaigns. After the league format was adjusted to 34 matches, Paris Saint-Germain recorded 92 goals in the most recent season, placing them among the top tallies under the revised structure.
