Bangladesh captain Litton Das has highlighted the urgent need for a rest period for his players following a 3–0 whitewash by the West Indies in the recent T20I series, which concluded in Chattogram on Friday. The comprehensive defeat in the final T20I underscored the physical and mental toll that a packed international calendar has taken on the squad.
Litton on Player Exhaustion
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Litton acknowledged the evident fatigue affecting the team:
“Sometimes players go through phases of exhaustion. You try to give everything, but things just don’t go your way. I think the boys are a little tired. A short break will help them refresh and come back stronger.”
Since the start of September, Bangladesh cricketers have faced an almost continuous run of matches. They spent over a month in camp ahead of the Asia Cup, participated in the tournament, and then toured the UAE for a back-to-back series against Afghanistan. Upon returning home, most players were quickly back in action for the West Indies series, leaving minimal recovery time.
Mental and Physical Toll
Litton stressed that the relentless schedule affects not only fitness but also concentration and decision-making on the field:
“All of them have been playing cricket continuously for a long time. When you play regularly, many things don’t go in your favour. A ten-day break now will allow everyone to reset before the Ireland series.”
Looking Ahead
The break will be short-lived, as Bangladesh are scheduled to face Ireland in a two-match Test series starting on 11 November, followed by three T20Is. Soon after, attention will turn to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), while preparations for the T20 World Cup in February next year will also begin.
