Mohamed Salah was forced off during the second half of Liverpool FC’s match against Crystal Palace after sustaining an apparent injury, raising concerns over his availability for the remainder of the season.
The incident occurred during the latter stages of the match when Salah suddenly sat down on the pitch holding his leg. The nature of the stoppage quickly indicated a physical problem. He was subsequently substituted in the 60th minute due to the injury. As he left the field, he acknowledged the crowd’s applause, though his demeanour suggested disappointment.
Post-match updates indicated that Salah had suffered a hamstring injury. While the club has not yet issued an official statement confirming the extent of the injury, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan stated that the player’s season with Liverpool may effectively be over. Speaking to Reuters, Hassan said, “Salah has suffered a hamstring injury. He will need four weeks to recover.”
Despite the likelihood of missing the remainder of Liverpool’s domestic fixtures, Hassan added that Salah is expected to be fit in time to represent Egypt national football team at the World Cup.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot adopted a more cautious stance following the match. In comments to the BBC, he said: “It is too early to say anything definitive. We all know Mo and how difficult it is for him to leave the pitch. When he does, it usually indicates something is wrong. We need to wait and assess the severity of the injury.”
In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Slot acknowledged that the manner in which Salah departed may indicate that he has already played his final match for the club this season. “To be honest, the way he left the pitch suggested that possibility. With only a few weeks remaining, it may have crossed his mind as well. However, we hope he can return. Further medical examinations are required before we can confirm anything,” he said.
Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 and has since established himself as one of the club’s most prolific players. During his tenure, Liverpool have won multiple major honours, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Community Shield. However, no trophies are expected in the current campaign.
Liverpool have four fixtures remaining this season, including home matches against Chelsea FC and Brentford FC, as well as away fixtures against Manchester United and Aston Villa.
The following table summarises Salah’s key statistics for Liverpool:

The final determination regarding the extent of Salah’s injury and his potential return will depend on the outcome of further medical assessments.
