Harry Kane Surpasses Messi as Ronaldo’s Records Come Into View
Harry Kane continues to strengthen his reputation as one of European football’s most prolific goalscorers, having surpassed Lionel Messi’s tally of Champions League goals scored after the age of 30. The Bayern Munich forward is now setting his sights on further milestones held by Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Kane scored twice in Bayern Munich’s 3–3 draw against Viking in the Champions League, adding another impressive chapter to his individual achievements. Although the German side were unable to secure victory, the England international’s goals helped him reach a significant personal milestone in Europe’s premier club competition.
Since turning 30, Kane has scored 36 Champions League goals, moving ahead of Messi, who has 35 in the same age category. The comparison also highlights Kane’s efficiency in front of goal. The Bayern striker has reached his tally in 40 appearances, eight fewer than the 48 matches played by the former Argentina captain.
Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, has enjoyed extraordinary success in the Champions League, winning the competition four times with Barcelona. Kane’s achievement therefore places him in distinguished company, particularly given the consistency required to maintain such a scoring rate beyond the age of 30.
However, Ronaldo remains comfortably ahead in this particular record. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 68 Champions League goals after turning 30, achieving the feat in 74 appearances. Kane still has considerable ground to make up, but his current form suggests that he could continue climbing the rankings if he maintains his scoring rate.
Kane Chases Ronaldo’s Consecutive Scoring Record
Kane is also pursuing another Champions League milestone associated with Ronaldo. His brace against Viking extended his run of scoring in the competition to nine consecutive matches, placing him alongside Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who have also scored in nine successive Champions League appearances.
Ronaldo holds the record for the longest such scoring streak among the players mentioned, having found the net in 11 consecutive matches. The Portuguese forward established that remarkable run during his time at Real Madrid, demonstrating the sustained scoring consistency that has defined much of his career.
Kane is now two matches short of equalling that mark. Extending his streak would further underline his growing influence in European football and strengthen his standing among the competition’s most dependable forwards.
His performances this season have already been impressive. Across all competitions, the 33-year-old has scored eight goals in nine matches and registered four assists. Those figures underline his contribution beyond finishing chances, as he also helps create opportunities for his team-mates.
Since joining Bayern Munich, Kane has established himself as a central figure in the club’s attack, combining his finishing ability with intelligent movement and link-up play. His capacity to score consistently, both domestically and in Europe, has made him a crucial attacking presence.
The challenge now is to sustain that form over the course of a demanding season. The Champions League requires consistency against a range of high-quality opponents, and individual records often depend on a player remaining effective across several rounds of competition.
By moving ahead of Messi’s post-30 scoring tally, Kane has already achieved a notable milestone. Ronaldo’s records remain a more distant target, but the England captain’s latest performances have brought them into sharper focus. If he continues to score at his current rate, further landmarks may be within reach.
