India’s explosive young batter, Abhishek Sharma, is taking the world of T20 cricket by storm, establishing himself as one of the most complete openers in the modern game. Following his standout performances in the 2025 Asia Cup, where he was named Player of the Series, Sharma carried that momentum into India’s T20I series victory over Australia, which ended 2–1 in India’s favour.
In just 29 T20 Internationals, the 24-year-old left-hander has already scored over 1,000 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of nearly 190. His tally boasts six half-centuries and two centuries from only 28 innings, an extraordinary feat that has seen him rise to the very top of the ICC T20 batting rankings.
Former England captain and Royal Challengers Bangalore legend Kevin Pietersen has heaped praise on the young talent, calling him the “most complete opening batter in T20 cricket.” Pietersen added, “Fearless, courageous, and immensely talented – Abhishek is exactly what modern T20 cricket needs.” His comments on X (formerly Twitter) have resonated with cricket fans worldwide, many of whom now view Sharma as the next big global superstar.
Abhishek made his international debut against Zimbabwe in July 2024. Less than a year later, he has joined an elite group of just seven batters to surpass 1,000 T20I runs in such a short time. Analysts have pointed to his ability to dominate both pace and spin, his proficiency in unorthodox strokes, and his adaptability across situations – all hallmarks of a truly world-class T20 batter.
As India prepares for their home series against South Africa starting on 9 December, fans are eager to see if Sharma can continue his scintillating run of form. With every innings, he is proving that he is not just a rising star but a batter who can potentially rewrite T20 batting records for years to come.
