Sri Lanka batted first, posting 288 for eight, losing wickets at regular intervals despite Janith Liyanage’s top score of 54. Kamindu Mendis and Sadira Samarawickrama contributed 44 and 42 respectively, but consistent breakthroughs from Haris Rauf and Abrar Ahmed prevented the innings from accelerating.
Chasing the target, Pakistan’s openers Fakhar Zaman and Sim Ayub provided a steady start. After Ayub’s dismissal at 77, Babar formed an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 112 with Mohammad Rizwan, ensuring a comfortable chase. He equalled Saeed Anwar’s record for Pakistan while surpassing Mohammad Yousuf on home soil with his eighth century. Across all formats, Babar now boasts 32 centuries, ranking fourth in Pakistan’s cricket history. Additionally, he has been involved in 40 ODI century partnerships, second only to Inzamam-ul-Haq, further underscoring his consistency in building winning innings.
