Bangladeshi football fans are witnessing a new era thanks to Hamza Chowdhury. Recognized as one of Asia’s finest football stars, Hamza has transformed football in Bangladesh since joining the national team. His impact isn’t limited to Bangladesh; he has also sparked a wave of enthusiasm among fans of Leicester City, his club in England.
Social media platforms clearly show the trend. On Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, Bangladeshi fans of Leicester City are increasingly active. Posts about Hamza instantly receive thousands of likes and comments, surpassing engagement from local English fans.
Daniel Tagget, a video producer representing Leicester City in Bangladesh, confirmed this trend during his visit. “It’s hard to say who has more overall fans, but online, Bangladeshi supporters are extremely active. They constantly engage with likes and comments, supporting both Hamza and Leicester City. It’s truly remarkable,” he said.
Speaking at Dhaka National Stadium, Daniel expressed his excitement seeing Hamza’s popularity first-hand. “It’s incredible to witness the enthusiasm here in Bangladesh. Match days will likely be even bigger. Hamza told me that the upcoming match is already sold out.”
Daniel is currently producing a documentary on Hamza’s recent switch from English nationality to representing Bangladesh. “We are filming additional footage in England before editing, so the release will take a few months,” he explained.
On 18th November, Bangladesh will play their final home match of the Asian Cup qualifiers against India. Tickets sold out within minutes, showcasing the tremendous excitement among fans eager to see Hamza in the national colours for the first victory.
