The Bangladesh Women’s national cricket team‘s tour of India, which was scheduled for December and consisted of three ODIs and three T20Is, has been postponed. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the news on Tuesday, with a spokesperson revealing that the BCB received a letter from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stating that the white-ball series would be rescheduled to a later date.
Although no specific reason was provided for the postponement, it is widely believed that the ongoing political tensions between Bangladesh and India could have played a significant role in this decision.
This series was part of the ICC’s Future Tours Programme, and it was expected to be India’s final set of games before the commencement of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). This series would have been the only one between India’s victorious ODI World Cup campaign and the WPL. The matches were set to be played in Kolkata and Cuttack, and would have marked the beginning of the new cycle for the Women’s ODI Championship for both teams.
Earlier this year, India’s men’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh was also postponed. Originally scheduled for August 2025, the series was pushed to September 2026 due to similar scheduling conflicts.
The BCCI issued a statement at the time, explaining, “This decision has been made after discussions between the two boards, taking into account the international cricket commitments and scheduling convenience for both teams.” The BCB then looked forward to welcoming India for this much-anticipated series in September 2026, with revised dates and fixtures to be announced soon.
Impact of the Postponement:
This postponement is not just about scheduling issues; it’s also a result of the current political dynamics between the two countries. With international tournaments and domestic leagues taking precedence, the scheduling of such series becomes more challenging.
For Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team, this series was an important fixture, especially as India had just emerged victorious in the Women’s ODI World Cup. The postponement leaves the team with fewer international opportunities to showcase their skills before major competitions. It also leaves fans wondering when they will next see the two teams face off on the cricket field.
The BCB and BCCI are currently in discussions to finalize the new dates and ensure that the series can be rescheduled at a time that accommodates both teams’ busy calendars.
