Bangladesh National Football Team to Perform Umrah During Training Camp

Dhaka, 10 March 2025 (BSS): The Bangladesh national football team, currently undergoing a conditioning camp in Taif, Saudi Arabia, has planned to perform Umrah as part of their spiritual journey.

The team’s manager, Amer Khan, confirmed the decision through a video message earlier today.

“We have a day off from training today, so we spontaneously decided to perform Umrah together. As part of our plan, we will be undertaking the pilgrimage today,” he stated.

Players Reflect on the Significance of Umrah

National team defender Rahmat Mia, who has previously performed Umrah twice with the team, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit the holy site once again.

“For a Muslim, this is a place of deep emotion and peace. Thanks to Allah for giving us this opportunity. It will help us improve our focus during the conditioning camp and bring mental peace. This Umrah will benefit our team, and we hope it will also enrich our lives,” Rahmat said.

Team captain Jamal Bhuyan also shared his thoughts, stating:

“We are travelling to Mecca to perform Umrah. Over the past two or three years, whenever we have had the chance, we have gone together to perform this pilgrimage. Today is no different. I believe it will be beneficial both for the team and for me personally.”

National goalkeeper Sujon Hossain expressed his gratitude to Allah and mentioned that he would pray for the success of the team, particularly for their upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers match against India.

“I will pray for everyone, especially for our team, so that we can secure a victory in the qualifiers,” he said.

Preparation for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers

The national team has been undergoing an intensive training programme in Saudi Arabia since 6 March, under the guidance of head coach Javier Cabrera. Their rigorous training aims to enhance their preparation ahead of a crucial encounter.

The team is set to return to Bangladesh on 17 March, after completing their training in Saudi Arabia. Their next challenge will be the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, where they will face India in an away match on 25 March in Shillong, India.

Spiritual Motivation and Team Morale

Performing Umrah ahead of an important international fixture reflects the team’s desire to seek divine guidance and inner peace. In the past, many athletes have credited spiritual experiences with strengthening their mental resilience and unity. The Bangladesh team hopes that this journey will not only provide them with renewed motivation but also foster a strong sense of camaraderie before their crucial match.
