With doubts often raised about Gaikwad’s ability to convert starts in ODI cricket, the 27-year-old answered every question emphatically with one of the finest innings of his young career.
India’s innings began shakily. Two early wickets forced the team onto the back foot, and with only 65 runs on the board, pressure was rising quickly. Virat Kohli’s innings added further weight to India’s dominance. The experienced campaigner struck a brilliant 102 from 93 balls, continuing his exceptional run of form. His calm yet authoritative batting ensured that India’s run rate stayed healthy and that the partnership never lost momentum.
India had already showcased their strength in the first ODI, scoring 349 thanks to Kohli’s century and clinching the game by 17 runs. In the second match too, their batting powerhouse was on full display. The Gaikwad-Kohli partnership created a platform strong enough for India to push for another massive total.
