Real Madrid have finally returned to winning ways in La Liga, and once again, it was Kylian Mbappé who delivered the magic. After a worrying run of three consecutive draws that had fans and pundits questioning the team’s attacking cohesion, Madrid’s offensive struggles were laid bare. Without Mbappé, the team’s front line appeared disjointed, lacking the rhythm and sharpness expected of the Spanish giants. The tension was palpable both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
However, all doubts were temporarily silenced as Madrid travelled to San Mamés to face Athletic Bilbao and secured a convincing 3-0 victory. Mbappé scored twice, demonstrating his lethal finishing and eye for goal, while Eduardo Camavinga added the third, displaying his technical prowess and vision in midfield. The victory not only ended the winless streak but also narrowed the points gap with league leaders Barcelona, reigniting Real’s hopes for the title.
From the very first whistle, Madrid attacked relentlessly. Both Mbappé and Vinícius Jr. tested Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simón early on, keeping the home side on edge. It was Mbappé, however, who broke the deadlock in the 7th minute, receiving a perfectly weighted pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, evading defenders, and unleashing a spectacular shot from outside the box.
Bilbao attempted to respond and threatened Madrid’s defence, but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois produced a series of world-class saves, thwarting multiple attempts. Vinícius came close to doubling the lead in the 38th minute, only to be denied by Simón. Moments later, a swift, well-coordinated counter-attack allowed Camavinga to score, putting Madrid 2-0 up before half-time.
After the interval, Courtois continued his heroics, keeping out a long-range effort from Mikel with a remarkable one-handed save over the crossbar. Meanwhile, Mbappé struck again in the 59th minute, receiving a precise pass from Álvaro Carreras and firing a bullet from 25 yards, leaving no chance for the goalkeeper.
With 16 goals in 15 La Liga matches, Mbappé now leads the scoring charts, edging ahead of Barcelona’s Ferran Torres, who has netted eight times. Real will look to build on this momentum in their next clash against Celta Vigo at Santiago Bernabéu, hoping Mbappé’s form continues to inspire victories.
