Kucharczyk Targets Indy NXT Breakthrough

HMD Motorsports has confirmed that Tymek Kucharczyk will join its driver line-up for the 2026 Indy NXT season, marking a significant milestone both for the American team and for Polish single-seater racing. The 19-year-old will graduate into IndyCar’s primary feeder category following a rapid and impressive ascent through Europe’s junior formula ladder.

Kucharczyk arrives in the United States with a résumé that underlines both consistency and race-winning pedigree. His early breakthrough came in the 2022 Formula 4 Spanish Championship, where he finished third overall, claiming one victory and no fewer than 12 podium finishes. That campaign established him as one of the most reliable performers of his generation and opened the door to more competitive machinery.

The following two seasons were spent in the highly regarded GB3 Championship. There, Kucharczyk continued to refine his craft, securing four race wins and three pole positions while regularly featuring at the front of the field. His strongest overall result was third in the championship standings, achieved against a deep and competitive grid that has become a recognised proving ground for future international stars.

In 2025, the Polish driver took another decisive step by contesting the Euroformula Open Championship with BVM Racing. The move proved inspired: Kucharczyk emerged as a title contender, collecting six victories and 14 podiums across the season. His performances showcased not only outright speed but also tactical maturity, tyre management and adaptability—qualities highly prized in the Indy NXT environment.

A first taste of American racing came in October, when Kucharczyk participated in the Chris Griffis Memorial Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. He subsequently added valuable international experience by competing in the FIA Formula Regional World Cup at the Macau Grand Prix with Van Amersfoort Racing, tackling one of the world’s most demanding street circuits.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join HMD Motorsports,” Kucharczyk said. “Making the move to the American racing scene feels like the right next step. The test was very positive, and I am confident in what we can achieve together.” He also acknowledged the backing of Mubi.pl, ORLEN Motorsport Academy and Iteo, while noting that he will become the first Polish driver to compete in IndyCar’s official development series.

HMD Motorsports president Mike Maurini believes the partnership has the potential to flourish. He praised Kucharczyk’s trajectory and suggested that the team will aim high in what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2026 season, with ambitions extending from race victories to Rookie of the Year honours and a possible championship challenge.
