Bangladesh’s national football team is preparing for its final Asian Cup qualifying match against Singapore on 31 March. Ahead of this crucial encounter, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is planning an international friendly to sharpen the squad’s readiness. The match could potentially take place in Sylhet, led by captain Hamza Chowdhury.
During a meeting of the National Team Committee on Saturday, discussions focused on both the upcoming friendly and the commencement of the national team camp. Following the session, Media Committee Chairman Amirul Islam Babu stated, “The national team camp will begin on 20 March. We are currently in discussions with several teams regarding a friendly. If hosted as a home match, Sylhet is the most likely venue.”
Potential opponents for the friendly include Cambodia and Timor-Leste. Sources within the BFF confirm that initial talks are also ongoing with Vietnam, though the latter – higher-ranked than Bangladesh – has shown limited interest in a match against the national side. Timor-Leste, by contrast, has expressed willingness to play either at home or away. Cambodia has indicated a preference for hosting the friendly on their own turf.
The BFF is expected to finalise these arrangements within the coming days. Meanwhile, Bangladesh has also received an invitation to participate in a four-nation tournament in the Maldives during the June international window. However, no decisions were made on this matter at Saturday’s meeting.
The potential schedule of pre-Asian Cup friendlies can be summarised as follows:
| Opponent | Venue | Interest Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cambodia | Home | High | Prefer to host the match |
| Timor-Leste | Home/Away | High | Willing to play at any venue |
| Vietnam | Home/Away | Low | Reluctant to play against Bangladesh |
This preparatory friendly is seen as a key step for coach Hamza Chowdhury and his squad to refine tactics, improve cohesion, and gain match sharpness ahead of the decisive qualifying fixture in Singapore. With the camp starting on 20 March, the team will have ample time to train and adjust strategies in anticipation of the crucial Asian Cup clash.
