In the sixth round of the National Cricket League (NCL), cricket fans witnessed the season’s first double century. Amit Hassan, representing the Sylhet Division, unleashed his bat against the Rajshahi bowlers to register a commanding 200+ score.
The 24-year-old, however, could not extend his innings beyond this landmark. Amit was dismissed for 213 after giving a return catch off Asaduzzaman Payel’s delivery. This remains his highest score in a six-year first-class career. Interestingly, he had been dismissed for the exact same score, 213, against Khulna in the previous NCL season.
Amit began the third day unbeaten on 172 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and reached his double century swiftly, displaying excellent stroke play. The Narayanganj-born youngster faced 221 deliveries, striking 28 fours and a six to reach the milestone. He ultimately finished on 213 from 251 balls.
Since the NCL adopted the Duke ball in 2022, there have been only six double centuries across four seasons. Amit remarkably accounts for two of them, making him the only double centurion in the previous season as well, where he accumulated a total of 785 runs.
During this innings, Amit forged a remarkable 342-run fourth-wicket partnership with Asadullah Al Galib, marking the second-highest partnership for the fourth wicket in Bangladesh’s first-class cricket history. The record is still held by Sylhet’s Alok Kapali and Rajin Saleh, who added 348 against Dhaka in the 2014-15 season.
Although Amit was dismissed, Galib remained unbeaten on 160 at lunch, holding the potential to reach his own double century. This innings further highlights Sylhet’s growing dominance in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket.
