The second day of the second round of the National Cricket League (NCL) was a mix of century celebrations and disappointments. In Cox’s Bazar, Muminul Hossain missed out on a century, but Abdul Majid reached the milestone. Meanwhile, in Sylhet, Mahidul Islam Ankon’s brilliant century helped the Dhaka Division recover from a difficult position. In Mirpur, Rajshahi’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sakir Hossain Shuvo also looked set for a century but was dismissed for 89.
Muminul Hossain, who was unbeaten on 84 the previous day, could not complete his century this morning. He scored 92 runs off 145 balls before falling to pacer Ruel Miah against Barishal. Despite missing his century, Chattogram built a strong first-innings total of 358. In response, Barishal ended the day at 115 for 2 wickets.
At another ground in Cox’s Bazar, Mymensingh piled up the runs. After two centuries by openers Naeem Sheikh and Mahfizul Islam Robin on the first day, experienced Abdul Majid scored the team’s third century. Starting the day on 8 runs, Majid remained unbeaten on 119. With his innings, Mymensingh declared at 555 for 6 wickets. In reply, Rangpur lost 2 wickets for just 14 runs.
In Sylhet, Mahidul Islam Ankon pulled Dhaka out from a precarious position. On the first day, Dhaka was struggling at 120 for 5 wickets. On the second day, they lost another wicket at 140 for 6. From there, Ankon put together a 125-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Suman Khan (74). Ankon was the last man out after a patient 122-run innings off 272 balls. Dhaka finished at 310. Sylhet ended the day at 33 without loss.
In Mirpur, following Khulna’s first innings score of 121, Rajshahi scored 268. Sakir Hossain Shuvo was dismissed for 89 despite looking set for a century. In their second innings, Khulna ended the day at 68 for 1 wicket, still trailing by 79 runs.
