Dhaka, 10 March 2025 (BSS): The Bangladesh Air Force emerged as the champions of the Independence Day Archery Competition, held today at the Archery Training Centre in Tongi, Gazipur.
Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) secured the runner-up position, while Police Archery Club finished third in the tournament.
A total of 75 archers from eight teams, including district sports associations, BKSP, service organisations, and clubs, participated in the day-long event. Among them, 33 were male and 42 were female athletes.
Medal Tally:
Bangladesh Air Force claimed the championship by securing seven medals—three gold, two silver, and two bronze. BKSP, despite winning the highest number of medals with eight (two gold, two silver, and four bronze), finished second. Police Archery Club managed to secure one gold medal.
Notable Performances:
- Men’s Recurve Event: Paris Olympian Sagar Islam of BKSP clinched gold, defeating his teammate Abdur Rahman Alif in the final.
- Women’s Recurve Event: Eti Khatun of Police Archery Club claimed gold, while Taiba Akhtar of Team Blazer BD took silver.
- Men’s Compound Event: Himu Bachar of Bangladesh Air Force defeated Newaz Ahmed Rakib of Border Guard Bangladesh.
- Women’s Compound Event: Bonna Akter of Bangladesh Air Force emerged victorious over her teammate Pushpita Zaman.
- Recurve Mixed Team Event: The BKSP pair of Arobhi Akhter and Abdur Rahman Alif secured gold.
- Compound Mixed Team Event: Bangladesh Air Force’s Bonna Akter and Himu Bachar triumphed in the final.
The closing ceremony was graced by Kazi Razib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, who distributed the prizes among the winners. Also present were Anisur Rahman, Treasurer of the Federation, along with key officials Faruk Dhali, Sohel Akram, and Fazlur Rahman Mukul.

Archery has been steadily gaining popularity in Bangladesh, particularly after strong performances on international platforms. The success of Olympians like Sagar Islam and rising talents such as Eti Khatun reflects the country’s potential in the sport. The Bangladesh Archery Federation continues to invest in training and grassroots development, with hopes of producing more world-class archers in the future.
