Bangladesh lose second West Indies T20I, suffer series loss

Bangladesh suffered a disappointing series defeat against the West Indies after a collapse in the middle overs during their chase on 29 October in Chattogram. Needing 33 runs from the final three overs, Jaker Ali struggled to play big shots, leaving Tanzid Hasan under mounting pressure at the other end. In the first ball of the 18th over, Tanzid fell to Romario Shepherd, departing after an impressive 61 off 48 balls.

Shamim Hossain Patwari joined the crease, but Jaker’s eagerness to play aggressively yielded only 17 runs from 18 balls before he too fell to Shepherd. Shamim was soon bowled by Jason Holder, leaving Bangladesh needing 18 runs from the final over. Rishad Hossain and Tanzid Hasan Sakib failed to make an impact, while Akil Hossain lost his wicket on the last ball, as Bangladesh ultimately fell 14 runs short, surrendering the series.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s chase of West Indies’ 150-run target had begun cautiously. Openers Saif Hasan and Tanzid Hasan Tamim survived early scares, but Saif managed just five runs before being dismissed. Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy also failed to convert starts, and Bangladesh found themselves three wickets down for 85.

Tanzid anchored the innings alongside Jaker Ali, reaching a half-century from just 38 balls and taking Bangladesh past the 100-run mark. Yet the collapse in the middle overs proved decisive, and the lower order could not revive the innings.

West Indies had looked set to post a total beyond 200, with Alex Athanaze and Shai Hope compiling 94 for one in the first ten overs. However, losing five wickets for just 12 runs restricted their total to 150.

Bangladesh’s bowlers fought back admirably. Taskin Ahmed removed Brandon King, who had scored 33, in his opening over. Hope and Athanaze had earlier put on a rapid 106-run partnership from 59 balls, reaching 50 in the powerplay and 100 by the 10.5-over mark. Nasum Ahmed finally broke the stand, dismissing Athanaze caught by Tanzid Hasan while attempting a lofted shot to long-on, and immediately following it up by bowling Sherfane Rutherford.

West Indies struggled to regain momentum after losing two quick wickets. Hope went on to score 55, with only Roston Chase (17*) and Romario Shepherd (13) making double figures.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman was the standout bowler with 3 for 21, supported by Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain, who took two wickets each. Taskin Ahmed claimed one. Despite this disciplined bowling effort, the middle-order batting failure proved too costly for Bangladesh, ultimately handing the West Indies the series.
