Bayern Munich, who secured an impressive 2–1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month in the UEFA Champions League, have been dealt a significant blow. Luis Díaz, who shone brightly in that match, has now been handed a three-match suspension by UEFA.
The disciplinary action stems from a forceful challenge on Achraf Hakimi, which the governing body has classified as serious foul play. The incident occurred during the dramatic encounter on 5 November in Paris. Díaz had produced a remarkable first-half performance, scoring twice, only to see his night turn sour when he was shown a red card moments before the interval.
Because of the suspension, the Colombian forward will miss Bayern’s upcoming Champions League fixtures against Arsenal on 26 November, Sporting Lisbon on 9 December, and Union Saint-Gilloise on 21 January. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, especially considering his explosive form since joining from Liverpool this season.
Díaz’s Season So Far
Despite the setback, Díaz has been one of Bayern’s standout performers. In all competitions, he has registered 11 goals and 7 assists in 17 appearances, instantly becoming a key figure in Vincent Kompany’s side. Bayern currently sit top of their Champions League group with a perfect 12 points from four matches, putting them in a strong position to advance.
Fresh Injury Worries for Bayern
Bayern’s problems have deepened with new concerns surrounding Serge Gnabry. The German winger featured in Germany’s emphatic 6–0 win over Slovakia during the international break, but upon returning to Munich, he suffered a muscle injury in training.
Head coach Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Gnabry is unlikely to be available for the upcoming Bundesliga clash against Freiburg. However, the club remain hopeful that he will return in time for the following fixture.
