BCB Issues Stern Message Over Jahanara Case: Asif Akbar Emphasises Caution and Vigilance

Following allegations of sexual harassment against former Bangladesh women’s cricket captain Jahanara Alam, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken decisive action to investigate the matter. Yesterday, the BCB announced the formation of a three-member inquiry committee tasked with examining the allegations. The board has instructed the committee to submit its final report within 15 days.

BCB Director Asif Akbar stressed that no individual should be labelled guilty until the investigation is complete. However, he made it clear that if the committee finds anyone culpable, the BCB will take appropriate and strict action.

Speaking to journalists today, Asif Akbar stated:

“It is itself an offence to call someone guilty before any evidence is established. The inquiry committee will carry out its work within the next 15 days. Once the report is submitted, if any adverse situation arises, we will undoubtedly address it.”

He also highlighted the importance of resolving such issues to maintain the continuity of performance in women’s cricket.

“Women’s cricket has reached a remarkable level today. To sustain this progress, it is essential to tackle these problems firmly and efficiently.”

Asif Akbar further mentioned that the new board is striving to prevent controversies that plagued the past administration and ensure that no new disputes arise. This approach is viewed as a key step in safeguarding the safety, dignity, and reputation of women’s cricket in Bangladesh.

This move by the BCB has been welcomed as a significant effort to ensure that women’s cricket in Bangladesh continues to grow in a safe and professional environment.
