BCB Ups Coaching Game in Chattogram!

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken another decisive stride towards strengthening the foundations of cricket across the nation by launching its Coaching Education Programme in Chattogram. Following the successful completion of the first programme in Sylhet, this latest initiative demonstrates the board’s unwavering commitment to improving the quality and reach of cricket coaching in Bangladesh.

The three-day Level-A coaching course kicked off on Tuesday at the Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, welcoming 32 academy coaches from Chattogram and its neighbouring areas. The programme was inaugurated by BCB Director Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury, who emphasised the critical role of skilled coaches in nurturing the next generation of cricketers.

“This initiative is about creating a strong foundation,” said Chowdhury during the opening ceremony. “Quality coaches are the backbone of any successful cricketing nation. By developing our coaching network, we are ensuring a brighter future for Bangladesh cricket.”

The course content covers a wide array of essential coaching skills, including player development across different age groups, tactical and technical awareness, match preparation, and on-field management. Senior BCB coaches Wahidul Gani, Golam Faruq Suru, Imdad Imdu, and Nasiruddin Sojib are leading the sessions, while physical training is being managed by Cesar, the programme’s expert physical trainer.

Former Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar, now Head of Operations in the Game Development Department, also attended the launch. He highlighted that improving grassroots coaching is a fundamental step in professionalising cricket in the country. “Playing the game is only part of the journey,” Bashar remarked. “Understanding the principles of cricket and being able to teach them effectively are just as vital. These coaches are at the frontline of development, and investing in their skills ensures the long-term growth of Bangladesh cricket.”

The Chattogram programme represents the second phase of a nationwide initiative that will eventually extend to all divisions, with the overarching aim of building a robust coaching structure capable of nurturing future international stars. By focusing on the professional development of local coaches, the BCB hopes to create a sustainable pathway for young talent to reach the national stage.

This expansion follows the success of the Sylhet course, which laid the groundwork for a structured, standardised approach to coaching education. With Chattogram now embracing this initiative, the BCB is steadily progressing towards a vision where every district in Bangladesh has access to high-quality coaching expertise, ensuring that no promising talent is left untapped.
