DHAKA, March 18, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh national football team head coach, Javier Cabrera, expressed confidence in his team’s prospects for their upcoming away match against the strong Indian side in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, suggesting that the game could be a 50-50 contest.
“Of course, we have a boost with the inclusion of Hamza, a top player from Europe. His presence in the team will make all the difference. It is also encouraging to see India’s Sunil Chhetri back in their squad. His presence makes the match more exciting and motivating for everyone. However, India is still a very strong team, and while we are improving steadily, I believe we have a 50-50 chance against them,” Cabrera shared with the press at Shahjalal International Airport as the Bangladesh national football team arrived back this morning after their training camp in Saudi Arabia.
The coach also reflected on the team’s twelve-day training stint in Saudi Arabia, where they had access to high-quality facilities. He expressed satisfaction with the camp and is eager to continue progressing.
Speaking about Hamza’s addition to the team, Cabrera said, “Hamza has played in Europe’s top leagues, and his experience is invaluable. Everyone is excited to have him with us. We are all looking forward to training and playing matches with him. I have been in regular contact with him, almost every week, and we are planning how to take on India. I’m confident we’ll see something good in the match against them.”
Regarding the exclusion of Fahimedul Islam from the final squad, Cabrera explained, “Fahimedul did not return to Dhaka with the team. He was with us in Saudi Arabia for a week. He’s a talented player, and the training in Saudi Arabia with the team was beneficial for him. He did well in the camp, but the other players are currently more prepared than he is. He will need more time to develop.”
