Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele was named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year 2025 on Tuesday in Doha, while Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati secured the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award for the third consecutive year, cementing her status as one of the game’s leading figures.
Dembele, 28, was pivotal in PSG’s historic first UEFA Champions League triumph, guiding the club to a stunning 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the final. Over the 2024–25 season, he scored 35 goals across all competitions, including 21 in Ligue 1, finishing as the league’s top scorer. Domestically, Dembele helped PSG sweep all available trophies and also reached the Club World Cup final. Notably, he also won the 2025 Ballon d’Or in September, reflecting his remarkable consistency and dominance throughout the season.
Bonmati, 27, who was named Champions League Player of the Season, played a key role in Barcelona’s domestic treble while also reaching the Champions League final. She led Spain to the Euro 2025 final, narrowly losing to England on penalties, and was recognised as Player of the Tournament for her exceptional performances. Her third consecutive FIFA women’s award follows her three-time Ballon d’Or streak, highlighting her enduring excellence.
The coaching awards were also dominated by success stories. Sarina Wiegman, having guided England to retain the European Championship, won the best women’s coach award for the fifth time. Meanwhile, Luis Enrique earned the men’s coach accolade after masterminding PSG’s first Champions League victory.
In the goalkeeper categories, Hannah Hampton (England/Chelsea) earned the women’s award following her crucial saves in Euro 2025, including penalty shootout heroics, complementing her club treble. On the men’s side, Gianluigi Donnarumma, now at Manchester City, was recognised for his instrumental role in PSG’s domestic and European success.
The prestigious FIFA Puskas Awards for best goals went to Lizbeth Ovalle (women) for her spectacular scorpion kick for Tigres against Guadalajara in March, and Santiago Montiel (men) for an overhead strike for Independiente versus Independiente Rivadavia in May during the Argentine Primera.
