Red cards are common in football, but 17 in a single match is extraordinary. In a Copa Bolivia quarter-final clash between Blooming and Real Oruro, a total of 17 red cards were issued after the referee’s final whistle.
The 2-2 draw turned violent instantly, with players and staff engaging in fights. Police had to intervene with tear gas. One coach was hospitalised, and an official suffered a broken facial bone.
The chaos began when Real Oruro’s Sebastian Zeballos initiated clashes, pushing and provoking opponents. Later, Julio Villao punched a Blooming player, escalating the melee. Oruro’s coach Marcelo Robledo was also involved and suffered injuries.
Red Card Distribution Table:
| Team | Players | Coaches/Staff | Total Red Cards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blooming | 7 | 2 | 9 |
| Real Oruro | 4 | 4 | 8 |
| Total | 11 | 6 | 17 |
Despite Blooming winning on aggregate, celebrations were impossible as the field descended into chaos. Coach Mauricio Soria calmed his team in the dressing room.
