The Bangladesh Premier League’s 2026 auction has been postponed from 23 November to 30 November at 3 pm, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced. The event will be hosted at a Dhaka five-star hotel. The delay aims to ensure proper coordination among stakeholders and to organise a seamless auction.
Sources indicate that the key issue lies with franchise bank guarantees. Each franchise must submit a guarantee of BDT 10 crore. Despite two extensions, one franchise has failed to comply, while two of the four franchises that have submitted payments have only provided half the required sum. The BCB regards this amount as secure and confirms that these four teams’ participation is assured.
The BCB has begun searching for new ownership for the franchise unable to meet the guarantee. Options include appointing a new owner from previously interested parties or temporarily retaining control of the team.
This year, Rangpur Riders has come under the control of Togi Sports (Bashundhara Group), Chattogram Royals is owned by Triangular Services, Nabil Group will run Rajshahi Warriors, Cricket With Sami will manage Sylhet Titans, and Champion Sports (Remark-Harlan) will oversee Dhaka Capitals.
The BPL Governing Council has finalised the auction framework, including base prices for players. Domestic players in the highest ‘A’ category have a maximum base price of BDT 50 lakh, while overseas ‘A’ category players have a maximum of USD 35,000. Local players will be divided into six categories and foreign players into five.
The twelfth BPL season is scheduled to begin in the third week of December, with organisers promising a competitive and engaging tournament.
