A new chapter has begun for Andrik, the Brazilian forward whose early days at Real Madrid were marked more by frustration than fame. The 19-year-old has now firmly announced himself in French football, making history for Olympique Lyonnais with a stunning hat-trick during his loan debut.
Lyon secured a resounding 5–2 victory over Metz in Ligue 1, with Andrik scoring three of the club’s five goals. The Brazilian struck first in the 11th minute, doubled his tally during first-half stoppage time, and completed his hat-trick from a penalty in the 87th minute. His performance made him the youngest player ever to score a Ligue 1 hat-trick for Lyon.
At 19 years and 188 days, Andrik broke Bernard Lacombe’s previous record of 19 years and 196 days. In the 21st century, only a handful of prodigies – including Jérémy Ménez (17 years, 260 days), Kylian Mbappé (18 years, 53 days), and Ousmane Dembélé (18 years, 296 days) – have scored a hat-trick at a younger age.
Since joining Lyon on loan in December, Andrik has scored four goals in his first three appearances and assisted another, marking the best start for a new signing in the club’s history. The previous record-holder was Mariano Díaz, who scored three goals in the same period back in August 2017.
Andrik’s first goal came from a precise cross by captain Corentin Tolisso, converted with a deft flick from his left foot. His second goal saw him dribble past the Metz goalkeeper Jonathan Fischar after receiving a perfect pass from Tyler Morton. The hat-trick was completed with a cool penalty finish in the 87th minute.
Lyon’s remaining two goals were scored by Ruben Clivert, son of former Barcelona and Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert, and Tyler Morton. The victory lifted Lyon to fourth place in the Ligue 1 table, with 36 points from 19 matches, while leaders PSG have 45 points from the same number of games.
Andrik attributes his rapid adaptation to Lyon’s style of play. “I am back on the pitch, smiling again. Everything is fantastic, better than I imagined. I can enjoy time with my teammates and feel very comfortable. The staff have been amazing,” he said. “I chose Lyon for the style of play, which reminds me of my time at Palmeiras as a false nine. I can help in attack and defence, and I have a lot of freedom here.”
