Cricket Namibia has taken a bold step in its preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, appointing former South African batting maestro and World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten as a consultant for the national men’s team.
Kirsten, a legendary figure in international cricket, amassed 7,289 runs in Tests and 6,798 in One-Day Internationals across a career spanning 101 Tests and 185 ODIs. However, it is perhaps his coaching credentials that have captured the attention of the Namibian cricket board. Under his leadership, India famously lifted the 2011 World Cup, and he has also guided South Africa and Pakistan at the international level. Beyond international cricket, Kirsten has made a mark in the Indian Premier League, contributing to Gujarat Titans’ triumph in their debut season in 2022.
