Highest Batting Average Surpassed: Kohli and Babar Overtaken

After retiring from two formats of the game, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli now only plays in international One Day Internationals (ODIs). As the second highest run-scorer in ODI history (14,255 runs), Kohli has maintained an impressive average of nearly 58 over 305 matches, a feat that is no easy task. Therefore, comparisons with him are often limited. However, Milind Kumar, an all-rounder from the United States, has now broken the record for the highest batting average among players with at least 1,000 runs in ODIs.

This record was previously held by Ryan ten Doeschate, the Dutch all-rounder. Ten Doeschate finished his 33-match ODI career with 1,541 runs at an average of 67. He has now been surpassed by Milind Kumar, who has played 22 ODIs, scoring 1,016 runs at an average of 67.73. Milind’s form has been exceptional, especially in 2025, where he scored 652 runs at an average of 81.50 in 12 ODIs.

Following Milind and Ten Doeschate, Kohli holds the third spot on the list with an average of 57.71 from 14,255 runs. The top 10 averages in ODI history now stand as follows:

The standout bowler for the USA was Rushil Ugarcar, who took 5 wickets for just 22 runs. As a result, the United States won by a massive margin of 243 runs, marking their largest victory in ODI history.
