Inter Miami Add Former Real Madrid Defender Sergio Reguilón

Inter Miami’s much-vaunted “dream project” has gained yet another distinctly European flourish, as the MLS club confirmed the signing of experienced Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón, a defender who has plied his trade at the very highest levels of the European game with clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The Florida-based side announced on Monday that Reguilón has agreed a contract running until December 2027, with an option to extend the deal through 2028. His arrival further strengthens an already star-studded squad featuring the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, underlining Inter Miami’s determination to establish themselves not merely as an MLS attraction, but as a genuine winning force.

Speaking after completing the move, Reguilón made it clear that ambition was the decisive factor behind his decision to cross the Atlantic.

“This is a very ambitious project,” the Spaniard said. “It is a champion club that is working exceptionally well. What attracted me most was the opportunity to keep winning and to continue competing at the highest possible level.”

At 28 years of age, Reguilón arrives with a wealth of elite experience. A product of Real Madrid’s academy, he has competed in La Liga and the English Premier League, two of the most demanding leagues in world football. Over the course of his professional career, he has featured in major international competitions including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In numerical terms, his résumé is equally impressive. Reguilón has played more than 260 senior matches, offering consistency, tactical intelligence and an attacking edge from the left flank—qualities that Inter Miami believe will add both balance and depth to their squad.

From a tactical perspective, Reguilón’s signing is about far more than experience alone. Known for his attacking mentality, overlapping runs and high work rate, he is expected to provide additional width and dynamism down the left side—attributes that could prove invaluable in complementing Messi-led attacking movements. Analysts believe his presence will offer Inter Miami greater flexibility, particularly against compact defensive setups.

Reguilón himself has left no room for ambiguity regarding his objectives in Miami.

“I have come here to win,” he stated emphatically. “The goal is to lift the trophies this club does not yet have. I want to win everything here.”
