Liton Dazzles with Historic Stumping, Sets New Record for Bangladesh!

In a moment of history for Bangladesh cricket, wicketkeeper Liton Das has surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim’s long-standing stumping record.

Last June, during the first Test in Galle, Liton had equalled Mushfiq’s record of 15 stumpings by dismissing Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Udara. At that time, both wicketkeepers shared the record for the most stumpings by a Bangladeshi keeper in Test cricket.

However, on the second day of the Test against Ireland in Sylhet, Liton has now made the record his own. He achieved his 16th stumping when he dismissed Lorcan Tucker off the bowling of Hasan Murad. Not content with that, Liton added a second to his tally just four overs later, this time stumping Andy McBrine off Mehedi Hasan Miraz’s delivery to claim his 17th.

Bangladesh’s Stumping Records:
Liton’s achievement is significant, but it is Mushfiq who still holds the overall stumping record across all formats for Bangladesh, with 101 stumpings. Worldwide, Mushfiq is ranked 4th for the most stumpings in international cricket, behind India’s MS Dhoni (195), Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (139), and Ramesh Kaluwitharana (101).

For Bangladesh, the next best is Khaled Masud with 44 stumpings. Liton, now with 34 stumpings, sits in third place, closing in on Masud’s record.

In Test cricket, the record for the most stumpings is held by Australia’s Bert Oldfield, who completed 52 stumpings from 54 Tests between 1920 and 1937.

Liton’s record-breaking feat adds to his growing legacy, further establishing him as one of Bangladesh’s finest wicketkeepers.
