In a match where batting played the biggest role, Mahmudul Hasan Joy once again proved his class. Against Ireland, Bangladesh won by 47 runs, thanks largely to the batsmen. Joy’s magnificent 171-run innings earned him the Man of the Match award, but he was left a bit disappointed for not reaching a double century.
Joy said after the match, “I am a little disappointed I couldn’t reach a double century. But at the end of the day, I played well and I am happy with that.” He faced 286 balls, hitting 14 fours and one six. He credited the wicket for being helpful to his innings.
“I try to keep things simple and take advantage of bad deliveries with boundaries or singles,” he explained. After reaching his century, he batted aggressively, guided by advice from Mominul Haque to build an even bigger innings.
The second Test of the series starts in Dhaka on 19 November, which will also be Mushfiqur Rahim’s 100th Test. Joy expressed, “We are all very happy for Mushfiq Bhai. Everyone is excited to watch him in the next match.”
After over three and a half years, Joy’s century secured a Test victory for Bangladesh. If this strong batting form continues in Dhaka, it will make Mushfiqur Rahim’s milestone match truly memorable.
