Malaysian Cricket Shines on the Global Stage

Birandeep Singh may not be a household name in international cricket yet, but for followers of Malaysian cricket, he is a star. Today, this left-arm spin all-rounder etched his name into the history books by becoming the first cricketer in international T20 cricket to achieve both 3,000 runs and 100 wickets.

The record came during a mini SEA Cricket Tournament match against Bahrain in Kuala Lumpur. Entering the field with 99 wickets to his name, Birandeep took three more to reach the milestone. His team comfortably won the match by four wickets, chasing Bahrain’s 107 runs with one ball to spare. He also contributed 23 vital runs with the bat.

Birandeep had entered the 3,000-run club earlier this year in July, during the Asia Pacific Cricket Champions Trophy in Singapore, scoring 36 runs against Samoa.

However, his record may soon be challenged. Zimbabwe’s all-rounder Sikandar Raja is just 154 runs away, currently standing at 2,846 runs and 102 wickets in international T20s. Raja recently claimed his 100th T20 wicket against Pakistan on November 20 in a tri-series, becoming Zimbabwe’s second bowler to reach the century mark.
