The wedding celebrations of Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana have taken an unexpected and dramatic turn. On the very day of the ceremony, her father Srinivas Mandhana suffered a cardiac complication and was rushed to a hospital in Sangli, forcing the family to postpone the wedding. As the family was still recovering from the shock, another worrying development emerged today — the groom, Palash Muchhal, was also admitted to hospital.
According to reports, Palash developed symptoms of a viral infection along with severe acidity, prompting his family to take him to a nearby hospital. Though the condition was not life-threatening, doctors kept him under close observation for several hours before allowing him to return to his hotel. His family has confirmed that he is stable, though mentally distressed due to the ongoing circumstances.
The couple were supposed to complete their wedding rituals yesterday in Sangli, Maharashtra. However, the celebrations came to an abrupt halt when Smriti’s father collapsed in the morning. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where doctors identified complications related to the heart. The family then unanimously decided to postpone the wedding.
Palash’s mother, Amita, told the Hindustan Times, “Palash is extremely close to Smriti’s father. Their bond is almost stronger than Palash’s relationship with Smriti herself. The moment he heard that Srinivasji had suffered a heart issue, he was the first to insist that the wedding must be called off.”
She added, “After the Haldi ceremony, we didn’t allow him to step outside. He cried a lot, and the stress affected his health. That’s when his condition worsened, and we took him to the hospital. He was kept for four hours, underwent ECG and other tests, and is now fine — but still very anxious.”
Meanwhile, the family’s physician, Dr Naman Shah, has stated that Srinivas Mandhana is under continuous monitoring by a medical team. If his condition continues to improve, doctors are optimistic about discharging him soon, possibly within a day.
Despite the emotional rollercoaster, both families remain hopeful. Smriti and Palash are said to be supporting each other during this difficult phase. Fans across India have taken to social media, sending prayers and positive wishes for the quick recovery of both Srinivas and Palash, and hoping the celebrations can resume once everyone is healthy.
