Messi Receives Barcelona’s Most Beloved Player Award, what Messi said

Lionel Messi has been awarded the title of Barcelona’s most beloved player in history, a fitting tribute to the player who has defined a generation. The honour, bestowed by Spanish daily Sport at the Valors del Deporte gala in Miami, recognises the Argentine superstar’s unparalleled contribution to the Catalan club.

In the survey, Messi surpassed icons such as Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Ronaldinho, and Johan Cruyff. Speaking at the ceremony, Messi said, “I will remain at Inter Miami for a few more years, but we will return to Barcelona, because that is my true home.”

Joan Vehils, director of Sport, presented the award personally. Messi, visibly moved, added, “I will attend Camp Nou as an ordinary fan, follow the matches, and continue to support the club in every possible way.”

Messi’s career at Barcelona, spanning 2004 to 2021, is legendary: 837 appearances, 709 goals, and 35 major trophies. His leadership helped elevate Barcelona to global football supremacy, and his legacy is firmly etched into the club’s history.

Reflecting on his time in Catalonia, Messi said, “We went through a lot together, both the highs and the lows. Years of connection aren’t always easy; there are challenges too. Barcelona is my home, my place, my people. I had hoped to spend my entire career there, but circumstances unfolded differently.”

Yet, he affirmed that the memories remain precious: “I will always cherish the moments we shared. Leaving without fans due to the pandemic was difficult, but my love for Barcelona and its people is eternal.”

The award serves as a celebration not only of Messi’s extraordinary achievements but also of the enduring bond between a player and the club that has meant so much to millions of fans worldwide.
