María Sol Messi, the younger sister of football superstar Lionel Messi, has suffered severe injuries in a serious car accident in Miami, United States. While driving a pickup truck, María reportedly collided with a wall, resulting in significant burns and spinal injuries. Argentine media outlet Clarín has reported that due to this accident, her wedding, originally scheduled for 3 January, has been postponed.

María herself confirmed the incident to Clarín, while her mother, Celia, and Argentine journalist and TV presenter Ángel de Brito also provided updates to the media. The 32-year-old is currently out of immediate danger, but doctors have advised that she will require several days of rest to fully recover from her injuries. Celia Messi revealed that María lost consciousness after the collision, and sustained fractures to her ankle and wrist.

The wedding was set to take place in Rosario, Argentina, where María has lived for most of her life. She was to marry her long-time partner, Julián “Tuli” Arellano, who is now the assistant coach of Inter Miami’s Under-19 team. The couple has been together for 12 years, having first met during their teenage years in the La Bajada neighbourhood of southern Rosario. Julián has also played football alongside Messi’s brothers at a local club in Rosario, and he attended Lionel Messi’s wedding to Antonela Roccuzzo in 2017.

Away from the public eye, María is a successful entrepreneur. She lives in Rosario and owns the fashion brand Bikinis Río, which specialises in women’s swimwear. Her career in fashion design has made her a well-known figure in Argentina’s local fashion industry.
