Bangladesh’s ‘Cutter Master’ Mustafizur Rahman delivered a stellar performance on his debut in the International League T20 (ILT20), yet his team, Dubai Capitals, fell short in a high-octane clash against Gulf Giants. Playing in the United Arab Emirates, Mustafizur made an immediate impact, taking two crucial wickets and grabbing two sharp catches, even though the Capitals ultimately lost by four wickets.
Batting first, Dubai Capitals posted a competitive total of 160 runs. Chasing the target, Gulf Giants reached the score comfortably with seven balls and four wickets to spare, thanks to a blistering innings from Patum Nishanka.
Mustafizur struck early, dismissing Gulf opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz with the very first ball of his spell. After conceding just 11 runs in his opening over, he returned in the final over of the powerplay, creating another opportunity for a wicket. A chance fell for him to dismiss James Vince on the last ball of that over, but a misfield at backward point allowed Vince to make it four runs instead. Vince later went on to score an unbeaten fifty, guiding his team to victory.
Mustafizur’s brilliance shone again in the 12th over, claiming the wicket of the in-form Nishanka, who had been dominating the innings. He bowled economically, giving away just five runs in his last two overs and finishing with figures of 2 wickets for 26 runs in four overs.
Despite his heroics, the gulf in batting strength was evident as Gulf Giants chased down the target with ease. This loss leaves Dubai Capitals still searching for their first victory in the tournament, while Gulf Giants have won both of their opening games and top the points table.
Mustafizur’s debut is a sign of promise for Bangladesh cricket fans, highlighting his unique ability to change a game even when his team struggles. His cutters and clever variations continue to make him a sought-after player in T20 leagues worldwide.
