The ২০২৫ National Football Championship is set to conclude today with a final that promises to crown a new champion. The tournament, which began with a match between Munshiganj and Madaripur district teams nearly two months ago, will end with a clash between Sirajganj and Dinajpur districts. Both teams are making their debut appearances in the final, ensuring that this year’s champions will be crowned for the first time.
The final will kick off at 2:45 pm at the Bir Sreshtho Shahid Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur. Dinajpur secured their place in the final after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Chittagong in the first semi-final, while Sirajganj defeated Jashore 2-0 in the second semi-final.
Sirajganj’s coach, Mahbub Alam Pial, reflected on the team’s historic achievement: “It’s the first time in 39 years that our district has reached the final. We come from a relatively small district, and it has taken immense effort to get here. Our aim is to return home with the trophy.” Despite having a relatively young squad, Pial believes his players can endure the full 90 minutes and give a spirited performance. Captain Milon described the final as a challenge they are determined to meet, noting the strong support expected from around eight to ten buses of local fans.
Dinajpur, meanwhile, are tipped to have a tactical edge, having previous experience playing on turf. Captain Masud Rana said, “Our turf experience will certainly help us in the final.” Coach Shamim Ahmed added, “Our objective was to build a team not just from the city but from rural areas too. We’ve achieved that, and we’re confident, though Sirajganj will be a formidable opponent.”
The tournament’s last eight fixtures were held on a home-and-away basis, which both teams say has been invaluable in teaching them how to handle the pressure of playing both at home and away. The final promises to be an exciting showcase of emerging talent and competitive spirit in Bangladeshi football.
