New Zealand Triumphs, but in a Nail-biting Finish

Together, Powell and Shepherd added 62 runs for the seventh wicket, turning the tide in the West Indies’ favour. Shepherd was particularly impressive, smashing 34 runs from just 16 balls, including one four and four sixes, before being dismissed. Matthew Ford then added some late drama to the contest, as the West Indies needed 16 runs off the final over.

While Powell remained at the crease, Ford reduced the deficit with two boundaries off the first three balls. However, it was New Zealand’s Chapman who delivered the decisive blow, dismissing Powell on the fourth ball. Powell had made a blistering 45 runs off 16 balls, including one four and six sixes.

Ford finished unbeaten on 29 runs from 13 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes. Earlier, Alzarri Athanaze had scored 33 runs for the West Indies. They were eventually all out for 204 runs in 19.5 overs.

For New Zealand, Chapman was the standout batter, finishing with 78 runs from just 28 balls, which included six fours and seven sixes. Daryl Mitchell contributed 28 runs off 14 balls, and Mitchell Santner added 18 runs from 8 balls, helping the team reach a total of 207 runs from five wickets.
