Australia’s captain Pat Cummins may miss the opening Ashes Test due to a back injury, but he’s clearly keeping busy off the field. While he won’t be present for the Test starting on November 21 in Perth, Cummins is expected to return for the following Test in Brisbane. In the meantime, the star fast bowler has made a significant personal decision, purchasing a grand Victorian mansion in one of Sydney’s most prestigious areas.
The £10 million ($19.5 crore) property is located in the exclusive Bronte area, offering both historic charm and modern luxury. Built in 1888, this 137-year-old Victorian house features five bedrooms and four bathrooms, spread across 730 square metres. It was the couple’s love for design and their growing family that led them to this property—Cummins’ wife, interior designer Becky Boston, played a key role in choosing the home.
Earlier this year, the Cummins family welcomed their second child, a daughter named Eddie, who now joins their four-year-old son, Albie. With their family expanding, the couple likely felt the need for a larger home to accommodate their growing needs.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, the seller of the property was Kerry Spooner, a member of the Waverley Council. Spooner and her late husband, Brian O’Neil, had owned the house for nearly three decades. They purchased it in 1996 for just $990,000, highlighting the tremendous increase in property values in this part of Sydney.
This new purchase is not the first real estate venture for Cummins. In 2021, he bought another Victorian property in the same area, known as ‘Fig Tree House’. That property, priced at $9.3 million, has served as their primary residence, while his previous home, a $3.7 million apartment on Clovelly Beach Street, was sold to fund the move.
In addition to these purchases, Cummins also owns a charming cottage in Moss Vale, located in the Southern Highlands of Sydney. The 1930s-built cottage, bought for $905,000 in 2017, is now rented out for $550 a week, generating additional income for the Australian cricketer.
Pat Cummins, one of Australia’s wealthiest cricketers, reportedly earns around $10 million annually, with a $3 million contract with Cricket Australia and another $3.7 million from his IPL contract. He also has endorsement deals with various brands, including Gillette. It seems the Australian fast bowler is not only a formidable force on the pitch but also a savvy investor in the property market.
