Qatar-Afghanistan Match: International Series or Friendly? Confusion Reigns as the Match Finally Starts After 250 Minutes!

In Doha, Qatar, a three-match T20 series was supposed to take place between Qatar and Afghanistan. However, just before the series was set to begin, a major confusion arose. While the Qatar Cricket Association promoted the series as an international T20 event, the Afghanistan Cricket Board clarified that it was, in fact, a series of warm-up matches.

The confusion began before the scheduled start time of the match when the Qatar Cricket Association started promoting the games as an “International T20 Series” across their social media platforms. As the match time drew closer, the Afghanistan Cricket Board tweeted that Afghanistan’s ‘A’ team would be playing and that the matches were intended as preparations for the 2025 Rising Stars Asia Cup.

Originally, the match was due to start at 5:30 PM, but after considerable delays, it finally commenced at 8:00 PM – a delay of two and a half hours. During this time, there was a growing sense of confusion among the spectators, with the match being alternately referred to as ‘cancelled’ and ‘international’. This left the audience unclear about the nature of the event.

It later emerged that the Afghanistan Cricket Board had not granted international status to the match, and it was instead a preparation game. Despite repeated references to the event as an “international T20 series” on Qatar Cricket Association’s YouTube channel, the match was ultimately just a friendly.

In the game itself, Afghanistan’s ‘A’ team batted first, posting a total of 173 runs. Qatar, on the other hand, was bowled out for 108 runs, falling short by a significant margin.

Thus, despite the confusion surrounding the match, it ended with a comfortable victory for Afghanistan’s ‘A’ team.
