Rabiul Represents Bangladesh at Asian Shooting

In a decision that diverges from the government’s stance on cricket, Bangladesh has sent its shooting representatives to India despite security concerns surrounding the upcoming T20 World Cup. Shuter Rabiul Islam and coach Sharmin Akhter arrived in Delhi yesterday to compete in the Asian Shooting Championship.

Aleya Ferdous, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Shooting Federation, emphasised that the federation has been closely monitoring the security situation since the beginning. “Our shooters and coach arrived in India safely yesterday,” she said. “We are in constant communication with the National Rifle Association of India and the Asian Shooting Confederation. The safety and security of our team members were thoroughly verified before their departure.”

Rabiul Islam brings significant international experience to the championship, having represented Bangladesh at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His extensive exposure to competitions abroad has equipped him with the composure required to perform under pressure.

Coach Sharmin Akhter, a former elite shooter herself, adds further strength to the team’s preparations. According to Aleya Ferdous, “Both of them are highly experienced and have participated in numerous tournaments abroad. This ensures that they can adapt to conditions and remain vigilant in any circumstances.”

Rabiul’s event is scheduled for 5 February, and he expressed confidence and satisfaction regarding the arrangements in Delhi. “So far, everything has been smooth and secure,” he reported. “Immigration was quick, the hotel and the shooting range are well-maintained, and the facilities meet international standards. We have not faced any problems or emergencies, and the hospitality has been very satisfactory.”

The participation of Bangladesh in this championship not only provides the athletes with crucial competitive experience but also strengthens the country’s reputation in the Asian shooting arena. The presence of an experienced shooter-coach duo is expected to enhance Bangladesh’s prospects in the tournament.
