Factors such as Miami’s climate, the city’s growing football culture, fan popularity, and even his association with David Beckham, who co-owns Inter Miami, were cited as influencing the forward’s potential move. The piece even speculated that Ronaldo was imagining scoring from Messi’s assists or sharing free-kicks and penalties—a dream scenario for any football fan.

However, the reality could not have been further from the speculation. The story quickly unravelled as a prank. Published on 28 December, the report coincided with ‘Día de los Santos Inocentes’, Spain’s equivalent of April Fools’ Day. A major clue was the byline—Ricardo Tubbs, a fictional character from the popular television series Miami Vice. The article was nothing more than a cleverly crafted joke, designed to stir excitement and mischief among football enthusiasts.

In truth, Lionel Messi has already extended his contract with Inter Miami until the 2028 season, solidifying his presence in Major League Soccer. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to play for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League and is preparing for an upcoming clash against Al-Ittifaq.

Although both legends are nearing the twilight of their careers, the fantasy of them sharing the same team remains purely hypothetical. While the rumour captured global attention and ignited fans’ imaginations, it was ultimately a playful jest rather than a genuine transfer possibility.
