Today, Sonargaon University, Jahangirnagar University, and BRAC University won their opening matches in the 3rd Ispahani–Prothom Alo Inter-University Football Tournament, creating a festive atmosphere. Meanwhile, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology, University of Scholars, and East West University were eliminated in their first matches.
At the Daffodil International University ground in Birulia, Savar, two of the three matches were decided in tiebreakers. The excitement of penalty shootouts was particularly noticeable in the first and last matches of the day.
In the final match, BRAC University and East West University remained goalless for 70 minutes. BRAC won 4–2 in the tiebreaker, featuring Rwandan student Thierry Simiumukiza. BRAC’s midfielder and vice-captain Wasi Itmam Anjum was named the player of the match.
Jahangirnagar University secured an easy victory despite the absence of key player Mahmudul Hasan Kiran. The fastest goal of the tournament was scored by Wadud Ahmed Sizan in just 17 seconds.
The opening match between Sonargaon University and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology also went to a tiebreaker. Goalkeeper Joy Chakraborty saved two crucial shots, helping his team win 4–2.
Awards were presented by former national football captain Zahid Hasan Emily and senior officials from Ispahani Tea Limited. Emily said, “All teams played well. Such initiatives are important to promote university football.”
