Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das has openly criticised the selectors for a lack of communication after Shamim Hossain was omitted from the first two T20Is against Ireland.
When announcing the squad, BCB chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain stated that Shamim was dropped to give Mahidul Islam Ankon a chance in the middle order.
Litton said, “I think it would have been better if Shamim had been included. But this is not my call; it is entirely the selectors’ decision. I don’t know why he was dropped. Typically, a captain should know which players are in the team and which are left out. I see no reason for Shamim being excluded.”
He added, “Neither I nor coach Phil Simmons were involved in any discussions regarding this decision. The board told me that I must work with whatever players have been selected. I cannot influence player selection. My responsibility is to deliver on the field with the team I have.”
Analysts believe Litton’s comments highlight issues of transparency and the importance of captain’s involvement in selection.
Summary Table: Middle-Order Changes
| Player | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Shamim Hossain | Middle-order | Dropped without prior notice |
| Mahidul Islam Ankon | Middle-order | Selected in place of Shamim |
The controversy has sparked debate among fans and experts about communication gaps between selectors and captains.
