Arsenal Set New Corner-Goal Record

Arsenal may or may not secure the Premier League title this season, but Mikel Arteta’s side has already achieved a significant statistical milestone. The club has broken a 32-year-old record to become the new “corner kings” in Premier League history, underlining their effectiveness from set-piece situations.

The record was established on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium during Arsenal’s match against Newcastle United. A goal from Eberechi Eze, originating from a short corner routine, marked Arsenal’s 17th goal from corners in the 2025–26 Premier League season. This took them beyond the longstanding record of 16 goals set by Oldham Athletic in the 1992–93 campaign—a benchmark that had remained unmatched for more than three decades.

Arsenal had previously equalled that record in the 2023–24 season, also scoring 16 goals from corners. However, the latest goal against Newcastle ensured that the North London club now holds the record outright.

A key figure behind Arsenal’s set-piece success is Nicolas Jover, the club’s set-piece coach. The Frenchman of German descent joined Arsenal in 2021 from Manchester City and has played a central role in improving the team’s efficiency in dead-ball situations. Over recent seasons, Arsenal have developed a consistent threat from corners and other set plays, contributing directly to their attacking output.

Jover’s influence has been formally recognised by the club. When his contract was renewed in 2025, a specific bonus clause was reportedly included, linking additional compensation to Arsenal’s success from set-piece situations. This reflects the measurable impact of structured planning and execution in modern football.

On the pitch, several players have contributed to the implementation of these routines. Jurriën Timber has scored three goals from corners this season, while Gabriel Magalhães, Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Merino have each added two. In addition to these direct contributions, Arsenal have also forced two own goals from corner situations, highlighting the sustained pressure they exert on opposing defences during such phases.

Arsenal still have four league matches remaining in the current season, meaning the total of 17 goals from corners could increase further before the campaign concludes. Their consistent effectiveness in this area has become a defining feature of their overall performance.

While this record represents a notable achievement in its own right, the broader outcome of Arsenal’s season will ultimately be determined by their position in the league table at its conclusion.
