Abahani Exit as Rahmatganj Advance

Abahani Limited were eliminated from the Federation Cup group stage after a 1–0 defeat against Public Works Department (PWD) in their final Group A match at the Bashundhara Kings Arena. The only goal of the match was scored by Abdullah, sealing Abahani’s exit from the tournament despite their need for victory to remain in contention for a semi-final place.

In the other decisive Group A fixture, Rahmatganj MFS played out a goalless draw against Fokirerpool Young Men’s Club in Cumilla. This result allowed Rahmatganj to progress to the semi-finals on goal difference, as they finished level on six points with PWD but held a superior goal average.

Group A had already seen Brothers Union secure qualification earlier, topping the table with 10 points. The final round therefore focused on the battle for the second semi-final spot among Abahani, Rahmatganj and PWD. Abahani entered the match with four points from three games, while Rahmatganj held five points and a marginal advantage. Abahani needed a win to improve their standing, but conceded in the 66th minute and were unable to recover before full time, finishing their campaign on four points from four matches.

PWD, meanwhile, ended their group stage with six points from four matches. Their progression depended on the outcome of the Cumilla fixture; however, Fokirerpool’s draw meant PWD were eliminated on goal difference despite being level on points with Rahmatganj.

Group B had already concluded its semi-final qualification, with Bashundhara Kings and Mohammedan Sporting Club advancing earlier in the competition. The tournament now moves into the knockout phase, with the elimination match scheduled for 5 May between the runners-up of both groups: Mohammedan and Rahmatganj. On the same day, the winners of Bashundhara Kings versus Brothers Union will advance directly to the final, scheduled for 19 May.
