Barcelona have secured the long-term future of Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim, with the club extending his contract until 30 June 2030. The new agreement represents a significant show of confidence in the 19-year-old, who has made a rapid rise from the club’s youth ranks to the senior squad.
Abdelkarim is scheduled to formally sign the new deal with Barcelona president Joan Laporta at the club’s offices on 15 September. Following the signing, the young forward is expected to speak to journalists at the club’s commercial offices, according to a statement released by Barcelona.
The Egyptian has attracted attention since his formative years in football, particularly for his ability to find the net. His goalscoring instincts earned him the nickname ‘the Egyptian Haaland’, a comparison that reflects the reputation he developed as a promising young striker.
His progress continued after joining Barcelona’s youth set-up. One of the standout moments came in a 9-0 victory over Montcada, when Abdelkarim scored a hat-trick. The emphatic victory also helped the Under-19 side secure the Division d’Honor title, further raising the youngster’s profile within the club.
His performances at youth level eventually led Barcelona to make a more permanent commitment. In the summer of 2026, the club reached a permanent agreement with Abdelkarim, giving him a clearer pathway towards senior football.
He then impressed during pre-season under head coach Hansi Flick. Abdelkarim scored four goals during the preparation period, finishing as the team’s leading scorer in that phase. His performances increased his involvement in the first-team set-up and strengthened his position within the club’s plans.
The next major step arrived on 31 August, when Abdelkarim made his senior Barcelona debut against Rayo Vallecano at Spotify Camp Nou. The appearance marked the latest stage of a remarkably quick progression from the academy to the first team.
For Barcelona, the decision to extend his contract is also a commitment to a player who has continued to develop through successive levels. The club’s youth system has traditionally been an important route into the senior side, and Abdelkarim’s progress has followed that pathway at pace.
At just 19, he has already moved from youth football to involvement with the senior squad and made his competitive first-team debut. The new contract now gives him several years to continue his development in Barcelona colours.
