Mbappe Ordered to Pay PSG €60,000 in Legal Dispute

Kylian Mbappe has suffered a setback in his long-running financial dispute with former club Paris Saint-Germain, with the Paris Court of Appeal ordering the France captain to pay €60,000 to the French champions.

The ruling concerns Mbappe’s attempt in 2025 to have PSG’s bank accounts seized as part of the legal battle over money he says remains owed to him by the club. French sports newspaper L’Equipe reported that the appeal court’s decision represents a significant legal victory for PSG, despite the relatively modest financial value of the penalty.

Mbappe left PSG in August 2024 after a high-profile spell with the Paris club and subsequently joined Spanish giants Real Madrid. His departure ended one of the most closely watched player-club relationships in European football, but the move did not bring an immediate end to the financial disagreement between the two sides.

After leaving PSG, Mbappe claimed that the club owed him around €60 million in outstanding payments, including bonuses and other incentives. The dispute continued even after his move to Madrid, eventually developing into a legal matter involving French football authorities and the courts.

The French professional football league’s (LFP) legal committee had supported Mbappe’s position in the dispute. However, with the disagreement still unresolved, the forward took the matter to the labour court in early 2025.

As part of that legal process, Mbappe sought to have PSG’s bank accounts seized. The latest ruling relates to that attempt and has instead resulted in an order requiring the player to pay €60,000 to his former club.

The amount is small compared with the €60 million that Mbappe has claimed from PSG. For a club of PSG’s financial standing, the payment itself is unlikely to have a major economic impact. The significance of the ruling lies more in its legal and symbolic implications than in the value of the sum involved.

The case reflects the difficult relationship that developed between Mbappe and PSG during the final stage of his time in Paris. Mbappe had become the club’s leading attacking figure and one of the most prominent players in world football during his PSG career. His eventual move to Real Madrid, however, was followed by disagreements over financial obligations connected with his departure.

The latest court decision does not necessarily settle every aspect of the wider dispute between the player and his former club. The question of the payments Mbappe says he is owed has remained at the centre of the broader legal conflict, while PSG has maintained its own position in the matter.

For PSG, however, the appeal court ruling provides an important advantage in an increasingly complex dispute. While the €60,000 payment is not financially significant compared with the sums at stake in the wider case, the decision gives the club a notable legal success against one of its most famous former players.

The dispute is therefore likely to remain closely watched in France and across European football, particularly as both sides continue to contest the financial issues left unresolved following Mbappe’s departure from Paris.
