Meanwhile, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak conducted a detailed inspection of the Eden Gardens pitch. Together with Gill and bowling coach Morne Morkel, they held what the local press described as a “roundtable discussion” on the wicket itself. Recent heavy rolling of the pitch suggested that cracks may develop as the match progresses — conditions likely to favour both spinners and seamers alike. Ravindra Jadeja bowled diligently for almost an hour, with Jasprit Bumrah following up with a 40-minute session of pace bowling. Yet, all eyes remained on Sudharsan.
